Riveting metal

Riveting is the process of joining materials together using rivets. It can be a permanent or detachable connection depending on the rivet used. At Marxam Project, we provide professional riveting services that ensure a durable connection and a short lead time. Our extensive experience guarantees the highest quality and full customer satisfaction. Contact us today and experience working with true professionals.

welding services

A welder is a person whose task is to join together metal, steel, cast iron and aluminum elements using the permanent connection method. A very important aspect in the welder’s work are manual skills, high patience and self-discipline during the welding process.

This is one of the most difficult and, until recently, the least appreciated professions. Not everyone can become a welder. Very often, and rightly so, welding is compared to artistic work. In addition to high manual skills, you need to have a very broad technical knowledge about the types of materials, the behavior of different types of elements and the behavior of the material in high temperature environments.

Unrivaled quality of riveting at Marxam Project

Riveting services at Marxam Project allow you to quickly connect elements together in a durable and safe way. Despite the popularization of welding, sheet metal riveting is still often used by many companies. Our wide range of services allows for comprehensive provision of processing services, regardless of whether you need radial, manual, hot or any other riveting – at Marxam Project we will easily meet all your processing needs.

Riveting – what is it and what are its characteristics

Riveting is a mechanical connection of elements (usually metal) using rivets. It involves inserting rivets into previously drilled holes and using a tool (usually a hammer) to create a connection.

Riveting can be used to create a detachable or permanent connection, depending on the rivet used. Blind rivets can be disconnected later, while attempting to disconnect rivet pins will result in their destruction.

The main feature of riveting is the ability to connect materials in a simple but durable way. It is also important that it does not damage the processed material and distributes the weight evenly, which minimizes local damage and makes the element resistant to vibrations.

How does riveting work?

The riveting process will vary depending on the method used, the material being processed and the use of the final product, but for the most part it will be similar. It will proceed as follows:

  1. Choosing the right tools - First, you will need to choose the rivets to use (e.g. what material they will be made of) and the machines to be used (whether it will be manual or machine riveting)
  2. Choosing the mounting location - Next, you need to choose the right place on the processed material where the rivet will be mounted.
  3. Drilling the hole - In the selected location, drill a hole 1.5 mm deeper than the diameter of the previously selected rivet.
  4. Rivet installation - Insert the rivet into the hole in the processed material. Its tip will then come out the other side.
  5. Rivet processing - Using a tool (usually a hammer), we process the tip of the rivet, increasing its size.

Types of riveting – sheet metal riveting, manual, hot, radial

Riveting is a process that distinguishes several processing methods. At Marxam Project, as part of this process, we offer, among others:

  • Sheet metal riveting – One of the most commonly used riveting methods, where two or more sheets are joined using rivets. They are inserted into drilled holes and deformed to create an inseparable connection.
  • Hand riveting – In this method, only hand tools, such as a hammer, are used to install rivets. It is used for precision machining of individual elements.
  • Hot riveting – Before installing the rivets, they are heated, which facilitates their deformation and increases the strength of the connection after cooling.
  • Cold riveting – Rivets are not subject to heat treatment before their installation. This is a more commonly used method, which is characterized by slightly lower strength of connections compared to hot riveting, but it is sufficient in the vast majority of cases.
  • Radial riveting (orbital) – In cases where precision and delicate use of rivets are required, they are deformed using an orbital (radial) movement. This allows for uniform connection with greater accuracy.
  • Single-sided riveting (blind) – A type of detachable connection, where we use blind rivets that can be installed when we have access to only one side of the connection.

Application of sheet metal riveting

Sheet metal riveting is a process for which riveting is most often used. In addition, it can also be used to process brackets, shapes and many others. They can be used to process various metals (most often steel), but also wood, plastics, or leather.

Riveting services are widely used in various industries, although their most common use includes the automotive and construction industries. This process is particularly useful for joining materials with different properties, which is why it is ideal for the production of chassis parts, shelves, and jewelry.

At Marxam Project, we have experience that allows us to offer riveting of sheet metal and other materials for almost all industries.

Frequently Asked Questions

Riveting is most often used when it is difficult to apply welding. An example of such a situation is joining materials with different properties, which is difficult for welding, while riveting will have no problem with it.

At Marxam Project, we select the rivets we use depending on the needs of a specific order. Threaded rivets, drive rivets, tubular rivets, flush rivets, snap-head rivets, solid rivets, friction lock rivets, blind rivets, mushroom head rivets, split rivets, self-piercing rivets or flat head rivets – we will choose those that will guarantee the best quality of the final product.

We rivet various types of metals, such as structural steel, stainless steel, aluminum, copper, and bronze, as well as wood, plastics, and leather. Depending on the material being processed, we will select different processing parameters to ensure the highest quality.

Riveted joints can belong to either of these groups. This will depend on the rivets used and the processing method, for example blind riveting will create a detachable joint, while hot riveting will create a permanent joint.

Within the scope of inseparable connections, we offer MIG/MAG, TIG and MMA welding, spot welding and soldering. In addition, our offer includes a number of other processes from plasma cutting, through CNC milling, to galvanizing.
